Wayfinding Vinyl Floor Signs
For
LA Museum of the Holocaust

Scale may vary

My studies aim at both increasing the physical visibility of LAMOTH as well as the promotion of its institutional identity. To these two ends, I have designed a wayfinding system to engage potential visitors walking in the Pan Pacific Park and the Grove areas, and hopefully guide them to the museum.

The wayfinding system sees temporary floor surface signs applied to paved pathways around and leading to the museum, specially created in support of different short-run events and museum exhibitions.

The design for the wayfinding signs as a continuous line-form is based on the geometry of the Star of David and the architecture of the museum building. The resulting design sees line patterns that lead passersby to the museum’s entrance. Moreover, the text on the wayfinding signs bear the name of the museum, as well as the historical timeline of the museum’s founding. Instead of your typical directional signage, I see this wayfinding system as a great opportunity to engage park visitors and the larger public with the story of the museum itself and its significance to its community.
